William A Strayhorn DDS


Dr. William A Strayhorn

Dr. Strayhorn is a native of Anson County and attended Anson Senior High School and the North Carolina School of Science and Math. He received a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Strayhorn received his dental degree with honors from The University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. Dr. Strayhorn was also awarded the American College of Dentists Leadership Award, the Academy of General Dentistry’s Most Outstanding Dental Student, and the Academy of Operative Dentistry Student Award.

Following dental school, Dr. Strayhorn completed a one year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency with the United States Navy at Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois.   At the completion of his residency, the program’s directors selected him as Top Resident. Dr. Strayhorn then continued his naval service aboard the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman where he was awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for his services during the 2007-2008 Persian Gulf Deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.  Dr. Strayhorn completed his Naval service at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth where he served as a mentor for the Advanced Education in General Dentistry program.

Since returning to work in Richmond County, Dr. Strayhorn has prioritized continuing education and achieved one of dentistry's most prestigious career goals by becoming a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. This award represents the professional responsibilities of Dr. Strayhorn to remain current in dentistry through quality education.

Dr. Strayhorn has also achieved the title of Fellow in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists by demonstrating an exceptional interest in the advancement of Implant Dentistry.

Dr. Strayhorn is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Sandhills Dental Study Club.

Dr. Strayhorn enjoys spending time with his wife Suzanne, his two girls, Harker and Reese, and their two bulldogs, Milkshake and Mayonnaise. He also enjoys UNC athletics, golf, and spending time in North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
